What is flexible film containment?
Flexible film containment is a cost effective Barrier Isolation system capable of providing very high levels of operator safety and protection. As the flexible film enclosure provides a light yet effective physical barrier between materials being handled and personnel no airborne contamination can escape into the breathing zone and no clothing contamination can occur. Flexible film containment can easily attain very low dust in air exposure concentrations and is just as effective in containing hazardous organisms and pathogens. Flexible film enclosures can be manufactured for “Single Use” applications or campaign use. For campaign or non clinical applications the enclosures may be cleaned with IPA wipes or spray lines. Enclosures containing biological agents may be sterilised using HPV systems.
Solo are proud of their manufacturing facility at Poynton which can operate to ISO8 conditions. Manufactured enclosures can be Gamma Irradiated for use in aseptic applications. So whatever you application from API containment to aseptic processing Solo Containment have to right design and construction package.

Our Flexible Film Containment Products Explained in More Detail:
At Solo Containment our priority is to deliver outstanding containment performance with the right life cycle and technology profile to meet your operational needs. Our product selection grid below shows how we can add in additional layers of HEPA filtration and operational security for more hazardous products and API’s.
For non GMP or long life cycle operation we have a reliable and proven “One-Way Street” operation where a flexible film zipper airlock is used for product container entry (See of our glove decontamination SOP in the soloPLUS video). After your product is processed in the central chamber we have a Continuous Liner Port for contained exit. Again Solo have a 3 step or 6 step decontamination procedure depending on the risk and hazard profile of your operations.
Similarly – when the flexible film enclosure is working for a very short life cycle we can migrate most of the filtration and engineering functions into an acrylic airlock – to minimise the costs of changing over the flexible containment enclosure. For HP-API or ADC manufacture we are able to offer a fully pre-assembled “Single-Use” containment system ready to hang directly onto the Solo support frame. Here at the end of your manufacture campaign the enclosure, the HEPA filtration components and even the complete continuous liner port are all disposable/incinerable parts that permit rapid change over with no loss of containment.
Where HPV sterilisation is needed to decontaminate biological agents Solo will offer their flexible enclosures with heavy duty PVC film for maximum durability. Here glove sleeves may be interchangeable gauntlets to protect against chemical attack.
The Solo range includes options for ATEX rated films, Inert gas operation, low humidity operations and for phot sensitive materials.
With all of our equipment options Solo offer a range of training and validation services to ensure the containment performance required is maintained long term when developed SOP’s are followed.
